This series started with a little earthenware pinch pot box that I made during a course at The Clay Art Center in Port Chester NY. This little pot was inspired by the natural mesa rock formations that I saw on family trips to Arizona, Utah, and New Mexico. I enjoyed emulating the color, texture, and form of these natural rock formations, highlighted with a simple oxide wash to bring out the depth of the texture.

In my new studio, I am exploring these natural forms and textures again, in parallel to the ongoing production of moon jars. Below are some new ones in this Mesa Series. Each is a vase with a clear glaze inside so they can hold water.
